Bias in Algorithms — Reflection

A week ago the topic addressed on the bias in algorithms. At first glance you would never really think of technology to ever take such a standpoint as they are unthinking without their programmers. This is in a sense as technology to be ever objective and strictly following the program as they were coded to do so whether it was to take them to a website or do simple calculations. Because of how innocent technology is the real sense of the analogy, the behavior of dogs reflect on their owners, is the same for technology. As everything that computers or programs do is done so by the programmer, if you weren’t already following. And because I believe that we are just starting in technology the current computers of today follow code that relate to calculations and further advancing themselves with the help of such programmers, but as we are getting more comfortable with such technology it has become our use of leisure and forming everyday struggles to a more convenient outcome. But just as we are starting this process, there are many factors to consider and the one focused for this post is both important and often neglected. To be honest I was not aware of this problem in this industry but right now we are dealing with technology recognizing certain people and misinterpreting information that often grow prejudice within the people and the cycle continues on with the forward for technology. The thing is people blame technology for this problem when it is the programmers themselves to be blamed, by implementing misinformation and leaving out people in order to use certain technology. This just adds up to the unfairness that people already have and fought for and now there is something else to deal with. If the case was the programmer had forgotten and it still in development or this truly is a case of prejudice either way can hurt people. Hopefully in the future when checked algorithms before they hit the internet or is used by the populace that is not intended to target people can be made, and would be step in bringing the people of the world together as the original intention of the internet even the convenience it brings from technology.
